A lot of people are quietly embarrassed by their prayers. They think everyone else has better words.
God already knows what you need before you ask. Prayer was never information or performance, which means short and honest counts in full.
Jesus addressed that directly. In Matthew 6:7 he told his disciples not to use vain repetitions like people who think they will be heard for their many words. Then he said something that should take the pressure off permanently: your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Sit with that. God is not gathering information. He is not waiting to be impressed by phrasing. The purpose of prayer was never to inform God or to perform for him.
So why pray at all, if he already knows? Because the relationship is the point. A child does not tell a parent about their day because the parent lacks data. They tell because that is what being close looks like.
This reframes almost everything about how you pray.
It means short prayers count. It means honest prayers count more than polished ones. It means the sentence you say in the car, the one that is really just help, is prayer in the full sense of the word.
It also means silence is allowed. Conversations include pauses. You are not required to fill every second with talking to prove you meant it.
Philippians 4:6 says in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. In everything. Not in the important things, once you have found the right words.
If you have been quiet with God because you did not think you were good at this, you were solving the wrong problem. Just talk to him.
