Some days our lives feel full before breakfast. The Lord meets that hurried, carrying heart with a holy command that is also a gift.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”

Today’s Reflection: God does not command rest because He is weary, but because we are. Sabbath reminds us that the world is held together by His hands, not ours. When we pause, we remember who made us, who sustains us, and who gives every good thing.
Exodus 20 calls us to stop, not as a penalty, but as worship. Rest is how we say, “Lord, You are God, and I am not.”
That kind of pause changes the atmosphere of a home. A meal shared without hurry, a quiet walk, a conversation with your children or spouse, these become places where gratitude can breathe.
So today, lay down what can wait. Let your soul catch up to God’s goodness, and receive the blessing of a day made holy.
A Word of Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of Sabbath rest. Teach us to trust Your care, to welcome Your presence, and to find joy in the quiet with our loved ones. Amen.
